San Ignacio Fiesta ready to celebrate this weekend

The 114th San Ignacio Fiesta is Saturday and Sunday. The event is organized by St. Ignatius Catholic Church, but everyone is welcome to participate in any of the events.

The 68th annual parade starts at 10 a.m. Saturday. Registration and line-up starts at 9 a.m. in the St. Ignatius Church parking lot. There is no entry fee, and cash prizes will be awarded.

The parade will go south on Goddard Avenue through downtown Ignacio. Josefita Herrera will be honored as Grand Marshal.

Activities continue in Shoshone Park after the parade. Big O DJ Service will provide music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will sell hamburgers and hotdogs. The Wildcat Youth Basketball Team will sell Frito pies, drinks, and cotton candy.

Also available will be snow cones, kids' games, a cake walk, kids' bouncy house, and face painting.

The 24th annual horseshoe tournament will happen at the same time in the park, with singles and doubles competition. Sign up by 11 a.m. in the park, $5 per person entry. Cash prizes and sweatshirts will be awarded.

The SUCAP rubber duck race will happen at 2 p.m. Buy a duck for $5 for a chance to win $400, $300, $200, or $100. You don't have to be present to win. Ducks are available at the SUCAP main office and at Ignacio Floral and Gifts.

Late Saturday afternoon, cool cars will cruise downtown Ignacio, sponsored by the Ignacio Chamber.

Fiesta activities continue Saturday evening with the big dance at Sky Ute Casino Event Center from 8 p.m. to midnight. Live music will be by Perfeccion de Chimayo. Admission is $15 per person. There will be a cash bar and concessions. Fiesta royalty will be crowned at 10 p.m. Queen candidates are Tori Archuleta, Jazmin Carmenoros, Selena Cook, and Sage Medicine-Blanket.

Sunday activities are centered at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, with the Fiesta Mass at 10:30 a.m. followed by the fiesta dinner at around noon. The menu will include enchiladas, beans, chili, and other goodies.

The fiesta raffle drawing will happen at 2 p.m.
