In Bayfield 'victory' has been spelled with a 'k.'

Just ask Viktor, the Wolverines' talented foreign-exchange student/midfielder whose last name-Sandvik-gives him two of the alphabet's eleventh letter, matching fellow junior Samuel Kundrik, as well as senior reserve goalie Trevor Kraayenbrink, for the "lead" in that odd category.

No surprise that BHS' two goals this past weekend came courtesy the duo's feet; Sandvik denied Ridgway a shutout last Friday evening with a 79th-minute schooling of Demon keeper Thor Ronemus, and Kundrik-via a Sandvik helper, fittingly-spoiled Telluride's try for a clean sheet inside Wolverine Country Stadium with a second-half score early the next afternoon.

Unfortunately, the good guys' goals came too late to spark winning runs; RHS rolled 6-1 and the Miners made off with a 5-1 triumph, leaving Bayfield standing 1-6 overall, 1-4 in the 3A Southwestern.

Up next for Bayfield will be tomorrow's anticipated trip to Alamosa, struggling after falling 3-1 at Pagosa Springs on Tuesday. After that game, the Pirates (5-1, 3-1) moved into a tie for second in league with Telluride.

All squads still trail Crested Butte Community School (5-1, 5-0), which goes for a vital season-sweep of Telluride today at home.
