BHS soccer bitten by Panthers

Wolverines continue scoring run

Yet another goal went into the Bayfield ledger, but yet again the enemy left controlling the field.

Such was the case Tuesday at Wolverine Country Stadium, when visiting Montezuma-Cortez overcame Viktor Sandvik's successful 20th-minute penalty kick in prevailing 4 to 1.

"The boys played really well," BHS head coach Dave Foster said. "We had a lot of positive possession and controlled the flow of the game." Indeed, the Wolverines had the ball in their control for most of the first half of the match.

"But unfortunately we gave up a couple easy goals and couldn't find the back of the net enough to make up for our mistakes."

Coming off last Saturday's 7-3 road loss at Alamosa, in which Sandvik struck once along with freshmen Grant Pierce and Colton Fine, the Wolverines netted at least once for a fourth consecutive contest and have increased their total to 14. Not too shabby, considering last year's single-digit count.

The boys are now 1-8 overall, 1-6 in the 3A Southwestern League. Bayfield's next match is at home Sept. 30 against Pagosa Springs, with a 5-2 record.
