Special dogs looking for home for Christmas

Rosie, a 6-year-old spayed hound mix, is available for adoption at the La Plata County Humane Society.

Every year the La Plata County Humane Society reaches out to local businesses to help find homes for homeless dogs. This year the humane society had no problem filling up those sponsorships, so instead of 12 Dog Days of Christmas, it turned into 14.

Through Dec. 24, each day will have a different business sponsoring a dog, usually one that has been at the humane society for a long time or a senior dog.

On their sponsor days, the dogs will be in downtown Durango from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The dog will usually visit their sponsor as well. This year the dogs are sponsored by Ska Brewing, Bakers Bridge Veterinary Clinic, Durango Motor Company, UltraSteam Professional Cleaning and Restoration Services, Durango Animal Hospital, 99X, Creature Comforts, Wallace Sleep N' Comfort, Alpine Animal Hospital, First National Bank of Durango, Trimble Hot Springs, X-Rock 105.3FM, the Durango Herald and Upper East Side Liquors.

"Local businesses love sponsoring a dog for this event," said Jonell Jones, marketing coordinator at LPCHS. "It gets better and better every year. The 12 Dog Days of Christmas has been a very successful event in the past and we've got our paws crossed that it will be another successful year."

Dogs available for adoption also can be viewed at www.lpchumanesociety.org/availabledogs.html or on the society's facebook page.
