Superintendent asks for information on vandalism

Parents,

This is the time of year that I typically send out an email welcoming everyone back for the upcoming start to the school year, but it saddens me that this first communication of the year is for another purpose.  On Wednesday night, July 22, we had extensive vandalism to exterior building walls at the middle school.  There were well over 10 large spray painted tags across the stucco walls of the school. These were very destructive, as we are unable to fully power wash the images off due to potential damage to the stucco and wall paint.  The solution is to have major portions of exterior walls repainted, a costly consequence of this vandalism.

We are asking parents and students to contact the Marshal's office if you saw any activity around the middle school on Wednesday night, or early Thursday morning.  I would also ask that if you have any information regarding who may have been involved that you please contact the Marshal's office at 884-9636.  The Bayfield School District is currently offering a $250 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals involved in this criminal act, and the town is offering another $250 reward.

Again, it saddens me that this is my first communication to parents for the upcoming year and I apologize for that.  Please look for my email within the next week welcoming you all back to another excellent school year at Bayfield School District.

Troy Zabel
