A Bayfield woman died earlier this week from what appears to a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said Jann Smith, La Plata County coroner.

Jackie Nelson, 49, was found dead inside her house shortly before 8 a.m. Monday, Smith said.

She last spoke to a family member about 3 a.m. Monday.

Smith said she has no information about what issues Nelson may have been dealing with leading up to her death.

Foul play is not suspected.
