Able to leap seven inches higher in the high jump than 5A Kirtland Central's LaKyla Yazzie and Kambree Pierro, Jordan Lanning easily captured first place inside 5A Bloomfield, New Mexico's Bobcat Stadium with her 5-foot, 5-inch best.

Not content to steal just one scene, however, the Bayfield junior virtually stole the show last Friday, emerging victorious in three other events to help the Wolverines pile up a fourth-place 57 points at the 2018 Bobcat Invitational.

With greater roster numbers available than other teams attending, Bloomfield and KCHS finished an exciting 1-2 in the standings. 4A Shiprock took third with 66 and 4A Pojoaque, N.M., Valley rounded out the top five with 38.

Lanning's 28 points would have been enough to take sixth, as she also won the 100- and 300-meter hurdles (in 15.94 and 49.32 seconds, respectively), plus the triple jump (her 34'0.5" maximum was 37.25 inches greater than runner-up Jayden Guillory of KCHS).

Launching the discus seven feet farther than Bloomfield's Micaela Abeyta and nearly nine feet farther than teammate Mikayla Barnes, Bayfield senior Tiarra Christensen earned first place with a 98'11" attempt and took fourth in the shot put. Her 31'5" throw wasn't too far behind Barnes' winning 35'10.5" heave.

Placing second in the shot was Ignacio's Aliyana White, with her 34-footer earning all five of seventh-place IHS' team points. She also earned a top-10 in the discus, taking ninth place (75'9") overall.

Taking home fourth-place points, Bayfield's 4x100 relay of Bella Shoup, Mary Grayson, Hannah Whitmer and Mylee Sanders clocked 56.78 seconds for their pass around Curtis Clement Memorial Track, and Shoup also finished 13th (31.84) in the 200. Ignacio's Vanessa Gonzales took 10th in the event, clocking 31.04 seconds, and also finished 12th in the 100 with a 14.83-second pass (Sanders placed 15th in 15.04).

'Cat teammate Briana Duran was also top-15 in the shot (14th, 25'2") and discus (14th, 70'6").

Up next for Bayfield will be this Friday's Montezuma-Cortez Invitational, while Ignacio will head to Grand Junction Saturday for G.J. Central's Warrior Invitational inside Ralph Stocker Stadium.
