Going into spring break with gusto, Bayfield Track and Field hit Colorado Springs last Saturday, March 24, to compete at a meet, William J. Palmer High's Terror Invitatational, not listed on originally-printed schedules.

But with the chance to test themselves against a field comprised mostly of Class 4A and 5A crews, the 3A Wolverines took advantage and brought home dual top-10 team finishes, with the boys eighth and the girls ninth.

Trailing only the 49'3" effort of 5A Fountain-Fort Carson's Iosua Maika, senior Wyatt Killinen heaved the shot 46 feet, six inches and ended up with the BHS boys' top individual result inside Garry Berry Stadium. 5A Palmer's Bryce Laughlin followed at 46'5", and BHS' Ryan Phelps maxed out in the event with a fourth-place 46-footer, helping the Wolverines total 35 team points.

Senior Carl Heide placed third in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.54 seconds, and also scored well in the 300-meter variety with his fourth-place 40.95. Senior Dax Snooks took sixth (16.10) in the shorter discipline, but did not run in the longer. He did, however, earn fourth-place points in the high jump with a 6'0" best, and senior Dawson Heide ended up sixth at 5'10".

Second in the 100m hurdles to only 5A Greenwood Village Cherry Creek's Delaney Smith (14.82) with her 15.37-second clocking, junior Jordan Lanning again paced the Wolverine girls at the Invite. Winning the high jump with a 5'5.25" best, she helped Bayfield amass 29 team points, but in the end all squads couldn't catch Creek's 153.

Lanning came in fourth in the 300m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 49.39 seconds.

BHS thrower Mikayla Barnes finished fifth in the shot with a 33'11" launch, and Lanning placed seventh in the long jump (16'7").
