Ignacio's Lauren Gram (5) prepares to knee the ball ahead, as Bayfield's Sophie Turner (19) wisely avoids the elevated leg during the Pine River Valley teams' head-to-head clash Tuesday night at BHS beneath the Wolverine Country Stadium lights.

All but guaranteeing the outcome with Tuesday night's first attempted shot, senior Savannah Kaufmann took a feed from classmate Misty Helton, dribbled almost untouched through multiple defenders and slid the ball past Ignacio goalie Rylee Pearson midway through the first minute of play, putting Bayfield on track towards a 10-0 win Tuesday night beneath Wolverine Country Stadium's lights.

In much the same manner, she would end the match by mercy rule in the 75th, running onto a short lead pass from sophomore Arianna Grimwood and converting for her fourth score in the 3A/2A Intermountain (a.k.a. Southwestern) League match.

Able to prolong the action as long as she could, Pearson managed to total 16 saves unofficially, including a second-half robbery of Kaufmann at almost point-blank range. And with BHS having built a 4-0 lead only seven minutes in, it was quite an accomplishment for the eager keeper. Unfortuantely, the Bobcats made one of the Wolverine's goals. It was accidentally booted in by IHS' Tatum Bebo, resulting from a hard Helton crossing pass coming from Pearson's left.

Celebrations, however, for the guests were more or less muted, and particularly so after co-captain Chamisa Edd looked to have wracked an ankle in the 14th trying to stop Wolverine freshman Brooke Merchant from scoring the home side's fifth goal.

BHS senior Sophie Turner struck in the 24th and Kaufmann finished a Malaree Matlock set-up in the 27th for a 7-0 lead at halftime. elton then scored in the 44th, and set up Kaufmann again in the 53rd, requiring Bayfield (5-6, 4-3 IML) to remove a second player, holding a 9-0 lead.

Junior Peri Milner (third minute) and freshman Halle Loveday (sixth) also scored for the victors, who used sophomore Lana McKee and freshman backup Jaden Cooper, who entered in the 55th minute, as goalies.

Up next, BHS will host Ridgway at 4 p.m. Friday, April 27, and Telluride at 11 a.m. the next morning. Meanwhile, Ignacio (0-12, 0-12) will have some time off before visiting Montezuma-Cortez on May 3.
