Times staff report

This year's Durango Fiesta Days Queen is Maddie Story, 17, of Bayfield.

"It's been something I've been dreaming about being since I was eight years old, when I was junior princess," Story said. "It's awesome to get to promote and be a part of the rodeo that I grew up being in."

She was coronated as queen after an intensive process, including a horsemanship contest, written test, an interview with judges and a modeling contest during Fiesta Days on July 25-28.

The title of Rodeo Queen comes with the responsibility of being a public face for Durango Fiesta Days and promoting the event.

Story hopes to use her position to be a leader and inspire other girls to enter the contest.

The Durango Fiesta Days Queen Attendant is Roma Kregger, 16, of Bayfield; the Princess is Lakin Hoover, 15, of Bayfield; the Princess Attendant is Cortni Cox, 15, of Ignacio; the Junior Princess is Kylee Pontie, 13, of Durango; and the Junior Princess Attendant is Liesl Chenowith, 13, of Bayfield.
