Aerial ignition operations were conducted Sunday on two prescribed burns in the San Juan National Forest.
Linda Parker, public information officer on the burns with the U.S. Forest Service, said on Saturday ignitions were completed in four additional units on the Brockover Prescribed Fire, located in the Turkey Springs/Brockover Mesa area in the Pagosa Springs Ranger District. About 900 acres of the 1,500 acre unit were completed as of Saturday.
In the Columbine Ranger District, fire managers completed 200 acres of a blackline burn on the Pargin Prescribed Fire, located east of Bayfield in the Pargin Mountain/Fosset Gulch area.
Aerial ignitions were being conducted for both prescribed burns on Sunday.
Earlier this week, the Columbine Ranger District completed prescribed burns in the southern part of Vallecito-Piedra area.
A total of 1,394 acres were burned in the Vallecito-Piedra area. The Columbine Ranger District will look for opportunities to conduct prescribed burns in the northern portion of Vallecito-Piedra into October.
