LIVINGSTON: Vallecito Bowl death comes at hand of Bayfield

Durango Herald sports editor John Livingston awards the Vallecito Bowl trophy to Durango High School football players after the Demons beat Bayfield in 2018. After only one year of a traveling trophy being awarded to the winner of the game and four years after the schools met on a varsity football field for the first time since 1936, Bayfield has opted to not schedule Durango for the next two seasons.
Bayfield head coach Gary Heide said each of the three matchups so far with Durango High School have been fun and provided fond memories.
As estimated 3,500 fans were in attendance the last time Durango visited Bayfield for a football game at Wolverine Country Stadium.
