La Plata County will offer free wood mulch, loaded into vehicles and trailers from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bayfield Convenience Center, 4496 County Road 223 in Bayfield.
The Bayfield Convenience Center accepts dry, brown yard waste such as tree trimmings, slash, and tree trunks up to 8 inches in diameter. These materials are periodically mulched and offered to residents free of charge. Traditionally, residents are required to load the mulch into their vehicles. However, on Saturday, La Plata County staff will be on site with heavy equipment to load vehicles and trailers with wood mulch. The transfer station will be closed and not accepting waste during the free mulch-loading.
The Bayfield Convenience Center also accepts green, brown and clear glass, newspaper, aluminum, tin cans and car batteries for recycling. Prior to drop-off, please separate glass by color and remove lids and flatten tin cans at the open end.
