Bayfield museum opens for summer

The Pine River Heritage Society Museum in downtown Bayfield is now open for the summer. A recent gift is an antique pump organ from the home of the late Evelyn Gosney Wommer. At the museum's season opening on May 30, Phyllis Tucker showed that the antique pump organ still works. With her is museum volunteer Anne Schrier in period dress for the day.
This mannequin at the museum shows the type of outfits women wore in Bayfield's early days. The museum is full of antique household items, tools, farm and ranch items, kids toys and other historic items, most donated by local residents. A special feature this summer is a display honoring local men who served and died in World War II. The museum, located on Mill Street, also has a mock-up of an early day school classroom. The building was the Bayfield Town Hall until 2008, and before that it was a store and soda fountain.
