Ballew wins ag award at IHS
Dylan Ballew has received the Dekalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award, Ignacio High School's highest honor for agriculture students.
Ballew received the award for his work in Future Farmers of America, where he serves as a chapter officer. He raises market hogs for the La Plata County Fair and the National Western Stock Show.
Brandon Hatter is Ballew's agricultural instructor at IHS. Ballew is the son of Jeff and Angela Ballew.
Local students named to FLC dean's list

Semler named to Northeastern presidents list
STERLING - Northeastern Junior College has released its honor roll list for the 2015 spring semester and reports that 193 full-time students were given high academic achievement recognition, including 69 students who made the president's list by earning a 4.0 grade point average.
Those making the president's list included Michael Semler of Bayfield.
Head Start director attends early childhood meeting
Char Schank was one of 18 professionals who spoke at the Early Childhood Meeting on June 3 in Towaoc. The meeting was for Colorado State employees and Head Start Programs from the Southern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute tribes to collaborate on services funded by the state to tribal children and families.
Schank is the director of the Southern Ute Community Action Programs' Head Start and Early Head Start division. She also is on the board of directors of National Indian Head Start.
