A friend of mine and yours, an old Bayfield(er), Solan Hulsey (he's 92 now) sent me a packet of several issues of your paper and I would like to respond to a column by Carole McWilliams on Dec. 9, 2016.
It's rare to see a flaming liberal (when extreme enough they are called communists) to go to bat for the First Amendment to our Constitution. Thank you, Ms. McWilliams. I am encouraged to see a leftist actually defend freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of peaceful assembly. Their normal occupation is an effort to destroy these fundamental underpinnings of our country.
I voted for Trump, but I too deplore his remarks about jailing those who would deface or burn our flag. Freedom of speech MUST be preserved even when we feel like wringing necks. Yes,Trump needs an intensive course in constitutional law, but not taught by the illegal pretender who presently occupies the White House, who is not even a citizen let alone being a constitutional teacher as he claims. Obama doesn't know the difference between right and wrong and is certainly not a legal president.
But the brain-washed left is still lapping up the lies and propaganda put out by the "government." There is hope, however, as Ms. McWilliams points out, freedom of speech is essential to America. If we get enough of it, eventually she too will see through the lies of the Democrats designed to make us all subjects of worldwide communism. I suggest she watch "Hillary's America" twice.
We voted for Trump because the alternative (lying Hillery and Bill) was CERTAIN death. We'll give Donald the keys to the store, but we'll be counting the money every night, and we actually trust him about as far as we can throw him.
The globalists are represented in America by the Democrats, Hillery and President Barack Obama, and Rinos (Republicans in Name Only) Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Newt Gingrich etc., who are all closet globalists and who are dedicated to destroying America. First they will tear down our borders, next they will destroy Christianity (they secretly hate God), then they will come after us individually when they embark on their announced goal of reducing the world's population by 90 percent. Keep your powder dry.
For those who don't recognize the name, I was born in Gem Village on Jan. 1, 1931, and lived in Bayfield the first 17 years of my life. My dad and mother (Walter "O.W." and Lena Carmack) lived on and farmed the Rocky Farrow place on Beaver Creek about three miles east of town. We also published the Ignacio Chieftain and Bayfield Blade from 1961-1965 and now live somewhere, after turning right at Area 51 and ending up in the badlands of New Mexico.
