The state of Colorado has waived a $66,500 fine against La Plata County Treasurer Allison Aichele for failing to properly disclose contributions to her 2014 campaign.
The Secretary of State's Office on June 18 said Aichele faced thousands of dollars in fines after not accounting for $1,375 in contributions to her last campaign for county treasurer in 2014.
Aichele told The Durango Herald the undisclosed funds were contributions she made to her own campaign, and she "did not realize" she had to file financial reports for personal contributions.
"It was an erroneous error on my part," Aichele said in a previous interview.
Aichele filed a request to the Secretary of State's Office to waive the fee. The request was granted, "for good cause shown," according to a July 6 letter from the Secretary of State's Office to Aichele announcing its decision.
